Our story

Pay-for-performance emergency savings, designed for the $400 reality

WealthNest Finance is a pre-launch employer-sponsored emergency savings platform built around behavioral economics, payroll integration, and SECURE Act 2.0 compliance.

Why we built this

The $400 emergency, the resilience gap, and the case for employer-sponsored savings

The Federal Reserve's annual Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking consistently finds that roughly four in ten US adults can't cover an unexpected $400 expense without borrowing. That single statistic explains a lot — the rise of payday loans, 401(k) hardship withdrawals, and the connection between financial stress and turnover that benefits brokers see across nearly every employer book.

The category exists for a reason. Employer-sponsored emergency savings accounts (ESAs) emerged in the late 2010s as the financial-wellness answer to that resilience gap. SECURE Act 2.0 (Public Law 117-328) codified the in-plan version (PLESA — Section 127) in 2022. The out-of-plan version — what WealthNest builds — sidesteps PLESA's $2,500 cap and ERISA fiduciary entanglement, which is why it launches in 60-90 days instead of waiting for a plan amendment.

Mission

Eradicate financial instability for the U.S. workforce

WealthNest is dedicated to eradicating financial instability for the U.S. workforce by making emergency savings a standard, accessible, and rewarding employee benefit. Our mission is to fundamentally transform employee financial health and, in doing so, boost employer profitability by reducing direct costs from low productivity, absenteeism, and turnover. We achieve this by building and managing seamless Emergency Savings Account (ESA) plans, which are easily implemented by employers and integrated with existing payroll systems.

Our core focus is to empower millions of financially stressed employees, starting with the goal of enabling 1 million individuals to achieve a critical $1,000 savings cushion before 2030. We leverage automated paycheck deductions, employer-matched incentives, and required financial literacy training to cultivate lasting, positive savings habits and a savings mindset. By solving for short-term stability, we provide the foundational step necessary for long-term financial wellness.

We envision a future where an ESA is the first and most vital element of a comprehensive financial wellness journey. The savings habits and data we cultivate through the ESA act as a springboard to unlock future financial services, including lower-cost credit, investment opportunities, and assets under management (AUM). WealthNest is committed to turning the highest-ROI employee benefit into millions of employee savings accounts and billions of accumulated savings, driving category-defining scale and ensuring lifelong financial stability for the workforce.

Our approach

Three principles that shape every decision

1. Behavior > content

Financial education by itself doesn't move savings rates. Pay-for-performance matching does — because it gives employees an immediate, dollar-denominated reason to enroll and a milestone-shaped reason to stay. We measure success in dollars saved per employee, not modules completed.

2. Out-of-plan over in-plan

PLESA is a real provision and works for some employers. For most workforces, the $2,500 cap, plan-amendment requirement, and ERISA fiduciary overlay make it slower and more constrained than necessary. WealthNest's out-of-plan structure is deliberately faster and more flexible — 60-90 day launch, no cap, no plan amendment.

3. Transparency over upsell

Pricing is published. Vendor comparisons (including the “when SecureSave is the better choice” sections of our blog) are honest. The 2026 employer guide is free and exhaustive — not gated content. Trust is the long-term moat in a fragmented benefits market.
